Rosie Perez
Rosie Perez was born Rosa Maria Perez on September 6, 1964. She is an American actress. Her breakout role as Tina in Do the Right Thing (1989) was followed by White Men Can't jump (1992). Perez's performance as Tina , in Fearless (1993) earned her nomination for the Academy Award, Best Supporting Actress as well as other awards. It Could Happen to You (1994), The Road to El Dorado ((2000), Pineapple Express (2008) and Birds of Prey (2010) are her main roles in films.
Perez has received three Primetime Emmy Award nominations (in 1990-1994) as well as an Emmy Award nomination for her performance in The Flight Attendant (2020-2024). She has appeared on stage in Broadway plays like The Ritz, Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. She also hosted the 18th season of ABC's talk show The View.
Early life
Perez was born September 6 1964, in Brooklyn to Lydia Perez (a merchant mariner seaman) and Ismael Serano (a Bushwick neighborhood resident). [3][4][5] Perez's mother Lydia Fontanez and Reyes was born in Humacao (Puerto Rico) on October 13, 1939. Her father came from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. Arturo Perez was her mother's 20-year-old husband. After an affair with Serrano Perez, her mother had already had five children. Perez was born at the closed Greenpoint Hospital in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood.
Perez is one of the ten children that her mother borne. Rosie and her siblings were raised in Bushwick at the time that their mother was in prison. While in prison her mother gave birth to her eldest daughter. After being taken care of by her aunt, she ended up in group homes and foster care. The siblings of her were often divided. She was put into the group foster home and was in foster care in New York until she reached the age of eight. The state of New York considered her an ward by the State of New York from age 12 up to age 12. Aunt and mother frequently visited her, while her father made an unsuccessful custody claim at one time.
